Welcome at the Wiki for the Induction Training for PO/FM and RM

(May 25 till June 6)

This Wiki will help us with the preparation for the Induction training, but also during & after the training we will use this Wiki to exchange information.

Introduction training for new RWO staff and RM

Main goals of the two week training for PO, FO and RM are:

  • Staff understand and confirm to ICCO’s corporate identity and values
  • Staff understand  the underlying vision and assumptions behind the ProCoDe process, the corporate business plan and the thematic orientations and are able to translate this understanding in practical day to day operational performance.
  • Staff know and understand the background of ICCO policies and programmes, systems, instruments, and the basis for the engagements ICCO has with partner organisations. They are able to use them in the effective and efficient execution of their functions.

Specific goals for RM:

  • Clarity on ICCO Integral Management Methods related to HR and Learning
  • RM understand how to generate analyses, reports and evaluations e.g. for ICCO North  and RWO purposes and DGIS using MIS, Dynamics and the Monitoring Protocol and other review processes
  • RM are able to use MS Dynamics and understand the primary workflow, roles and responsibilities
  • RM understand the different budget categories and “kasgeld” planning.
  • RM understand the ISO certification processes for ICCO as a whole and its consequences for the RWO
  • RM understand / have reflected on what is needed in the RWO to make sure the staff can go ahead with programmatic approach (randvoorwaarden) --> this also translates to a clear wih list to the central office
  • RM understand their role in approving project and programme documents

Approach:

The introduction training will use a participatory approach to learning. The underlying methodology is Kolb’s learning cycle which has as premise that adults learn best when they are enabled to share experiences, reflect upon their experiences with others, draw conclusions for future action from the reflection and identify areas for experimentation. Another important basis in the training programme is that we intend to promote inquiry by the participants to gain the information they need for their functioning in the RWO. This also implies that we will choose methods and design the learning process in such a manner that lectures and lengthy introductions by staff from ICCO Utrecht will be reduced to the minimum. The process of learning will be such that as much as possible exchange of experience between staff of the RWO and of Utrecht will be promoted.

Reflective practice will be introduced by means of reflective conversations at the start of each day chose a learning buddy and the introduction of a reflective journal.

Each day there is time from 16.00 – 17.30 to pay attention to work related issues that need special attention. This can be for the whole group or based on individual or small group needs. The work related needs will be identified/gather/share (needs are also asked in the invitation the participants receive before the training starts. The participants will be encouraged to collect needs from their colleagues of the RWO) on the first day  and if necessary during the programme so that the people that are required to address these needs can be notified to make time available. One of these time slots will be used for a MTI meeting in which the RM’s will participate.

Sharing of the learning process with those staff members of the RWO’s who are not present in  Utrecht/ Wageningen  will be promoted by the set-up of a wiki for the introduction training and the use of blogging to keep the other staff members linked to the process.

Process facilitation.

The learning process will be guided by two teams of process facilitators. The teams are forms by couples of two facilitators: Mart Hovens/ Marlou Pijnappel and Kees de Ruiter/Lilian Muhungi. Their role is to safeguard the proces, methodology/approach of the introduction training, to assure coherence and good flow in the programme and to promote reflective practice throughout the training. The first week in Utrecht two facilitators will be present each day. During the four days of the programme that are facilitated by Wageningen International Centre for Capacity Development and Institutional Change (CDIC) each day one process facilitator will be present to assure linkage with the first weeks programme.
